SNOW REMOVAL

Every winter we will undoubtedly experience snow and ice events. In order to ensure that the roads in the Township are in the best possible condition during these events, please make sure that you follow the instructions below:

1. DO NOT park cars in the road, this is not permitted in New London Township, but it also impedes the snow plows. Occasionally residents will move their car into cul-de-sacs prior to snow events which create problems with snow removal.

2. DO NOT throw snow into the road when clearing your driveway or walkway. This practice creates a hazard and also defeats the purpose and delays snow removal. The homeowner may also be held responsible if an accident occurs.

3. The Township IS NOT responsible for clearing the area in front of your mailbox to permit access for mail delivery. This is the homeowner’s responsibility.

4. The Township IS NOT responsible for damage to mailboxes unless we actually hit the mailbox with a truck. Heavy snow thrown from the plow blade can break mailboxes and rotted posts. Homeowners are responsible for these repairs.

5. If a snow event happens on a trash removal day, do not put the receptacles in the roadway.

6. The snow plow will not lift the blade when passing a driveway. If a homeowner has shoveled in front of their driveway and the plow returns, it is the homeowner’s responsibility to again clear the entrance to the driveway.

Each operator of the snow plows has a specific route that includes high priority and lesser priority roads. The intensity of the snow/ice event determines how routes are completed. For minor storms the entire route may be completed at once. If a storm intensifies, only priority routes (through roads) will be plowed. Secondary roads are next to be plowed with cul-de-sac’s being cleared once the priority and secondary routes can be kept open. The final push back and more intense clearing of cul-de-sacs take place when the above items are completed.

Your compliance of with these regulations will help our Road Contractors complete their work in the timeliest, most efficient manner possible during snow and ice events.
