Municipal Emergency Management Coordinators To All,

This evening during an emergency meeting, the Chester County Commissioners declared a ban on open burning for all residents and businesses in Chester County, which will take effect at 5pm on Sunday, October 27, 2024. The temporary 30-day ban is based on current and forecasted weather conditions, as well as the recent increase in brush fires across the County. Wildfire potential is currently very high throughout Chester County due to the combination of drought, dry fuels, winds, and fluctuating temperatures.

All open burning, as defined in the attached resolution, is banned until Monday, November 25, 2024.

The County of Chester, through the Department of Emergency Services, is working to ensure the widespread publication and distribution of this burn ban. The Department of Emergency Services requests that local emergency response agencies and municipalities share this information through their websites and social media platforms.

Any questions regarding the ban can be directed to Justin McClure, Deputy Director for Fire Services at (610) 344-5070 or jmcclure@chesco.org.

Sincerely,

Warren W. Messerschmidt Director
