Cape May – History by the Sea

A talk by Ed Tokarsky

The New London Area Historical Society and Franklin Township Historical Commission invite you to join us on November 9th to hear Ed Tokarsky speak on the history of the Cape May region. Many people think of Cape May, New Jersey, as a place to go to in the summer for a vacation by the sea. What they may not realize is that from as early as the 15th century interesting, unique, and significant individuals and events in the Cape May region have had an impact nationally and internationally. His presentation will provide an overview of the rich history of the area from the past up to the present day.

In the early 1980’s the Tokarsky family started vacationing at the New Jersey shore. In 1984 they purchased a small cottage in the historic town of Cape May Point, a borough just to the west of the City of Cape May and the site of the historic Cape May Lighthouse. In the subsequent four decades, they have met many who have long family histories in the area, and have developed a knowledge of, and a deep appreciation, for the people and events of the region. Ed is a member of the Cape May County Historical Society, and was honored when he recently was asked to serve on the Board of the Cape May Point Taxpayers Association.
