On Sunday June 29, the New London Township sponsored a picnic honoring the many volunteers that have helped the township throughout the year. Projects sponsored were the spring clean-up day and monthly Sunday park work days. There was a good turnout for the picnic. Brian Bruecks coordinated the picnic and cooked for the day. There were hamburgers, hot dogs, smoked chicken and pulled pork along with the normal picnic food, chips, soda, mac and cheese and cookies! Everyone had a good time.
During the picnic, Brian discussed the success of the volunteer efforts to clean up our township. Then Dave Shirey spoke about the specifics of the April 5, 2025 clean-up during which 114 volunteers helped clean our township. They cleaned 68 miles of roads, collected 401 bags of trash weighing 5,651 pounds and removed 14 tires. The clean-up was led by Dave Shirey, Charlie Humkey and Brian Bruecks.
After that, Mary Anne Steel, New London Township Chair Person, presented a bench for the first annual New London Township Outstanding Volunteer Award. This award was given to Dave Shirey for his endless hours of volunteerism to the township and surrounding communities. He was truly surprised and honored by this award. It is a fitting award for Dave since the bench is made from 17,100 recycled bottle caps! The bench has been installed at the park on the southeast side of the pond.
One additional thank you to Martha Straus, for her dedication to organizing the park work days and volunteers along with obtaining the recycled bench and plaque. It is truly a team effort!
